August 6-15,2010 the Washabuck peninsula will be celebrating the “Along the Shores of Washabuck” Summer Festival with numerous events. The festival is centered around the 100th Anniversary of the Holy Rosary Church which celebrations are August 7th to August 9th. Events will be posted or kept up to date once they are finalized. Keep watching to see the unfolding of lots of fun and entertainment for all ages!

Saturday, August 7th
Tour de Washabuck Location: Joe Dollie’s (Murphy Pt. Road) Date: Saturday, Aug. 7th Time: 10am-12pm A 27km mountain bike race that starts at 3474 Washabuck Rd. (Joe Dollie’s). The route goes through Cains Mountain Rd. (which is really rough) over the Jubilee Hill then pasted the Gypsum Quarry and then follow the payment back to Joe Dollie’s (where you started). As part of the rules you must ride a mountain bike.
Sunday, August 8th
Henno Bear Dip Location: Washabuck Falls, St. Columba Rd. Time: 1:30-2pm A great opportunity to get “cooled” off, if you are brave enough to go for a dip in the cold water! You may even see Browns Bear. Depending on the weather some years there is more water then others. *Please keep in mind this is at your own risk and parental supervision is required for children!
Henno Day Location: Washabuck Beach (Murdock’s beach located at the crossroads) Time: 2-6pm A beach party day after Highland Village day. The beach will be full of young and old who have come for a swim and to socialize. The Washabuck scholars will be found sitting under the trees in the shade. Be sure to bring your singing voice or instrument and join the other talents during the evening. What could possibly be any better than a beach party on a Sunday?
So You Think You Can BEAR Dance? Location: Washabuck Beach (located at the crossroads) Time: 6-7:30pm It is time to see who really has the bragging rights! I mean can you really be as good as the Browns? All are encouraged to try.
Bonfire and Campout Location: Washabuck Beach (located at the crossroads) Time: 7:30pm- Overnighter Pick a spot along the shore and pitch up your tent! Roast some marshmallows and sing songs around the Bonfire. Children require parental supervision! (And some adults)

Browns’ Movie and Storytelling Location: Washabuck Community Centre Time: 7-9pm The young folks or outsiders may have been wondering, “Who are the Browns?” and “What is their relations to around here and to the Bear Dance?” This is a great time to hear more about them. If you have any stories or pictures you would like to share with everyone else bring them along. Many haven’t seen the film that was put together in the 80s about the Browns. There is sure to be a few laughs.

“New to Geocaching?” Workshop Location: Washabuck Community Centre Date: Thursday, Aug 12th Time: 1-4pm Workshop with Lauchie MacLean. It’s a great opportunity to learn the basics of using a GPS and Geo-Caching through hands on experience. Please wear appropriate clothing and footwear as we will be going through different sites to get to the caches. All are welcome to participate!
